Research Assistant Position, Thompson Center for Autism & Neurodevelopment, University of Missouri, Columbia, MO


The Thompson Center for Autism & Neurodevelopment looking for a highly organized and energetic person to serve as a research assistant in our clinical research core.  The successful applicant will join a dynamic multidisciplinary team and will have the opportunity to work on several research projects based at the Thompson Center, including an NIH-funded longitudinal investigation of first-year measures of autism risk (Stephen Sheinkopf, PhD, principal investigator).  Research staff are part of a cohesive clinical research team at the Center, and staff typically participate in several studies. As a result, research staff can develop a varied set of skills, offering excellent opportunities for professional development. Responsibilities include recruiting study participants, interviewing patients and families, performing standardized adult and child assessments, reviewing relevant literature, entering data into databases, performing statistical analysis for study data, and preparing and maintaining study records. 


The Thompson Center for Autism & Neurodevelopment is a large and dynamic center of excellence at the University of Missouri. The center is multidisciplinary in nature, with core faculty representing 7 departments across 4 schools on the Mizzou campus.  With nearly 6,000 unique patient visits per year, the center provides excellent clinical care while also being an exceptionally strong facility for patient-oriented research. Research at the center is funded by federal, foundation, and industry sponsors.  Current studies include clinical trials, epigenetic influences on autism outcomes, early infant markers of risk and developmental trajectories, eye-tracking and psychophysiology, sleep research, and employment supports for young adults.   • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in psychology, linguistics, cognitive science, neuroscience, or a related field
  • Minimum 1 year of research experience (preferably in a clinical research setting)
  • Excellent verbal communication skills are essential as duties involve interacting with parents and clinical providers
  • Strong organization and writing skills


  • Training in experimental design and statistical analysis
  • Familiarity with statistical analysis software (R, SPSS, etc.)
  • Familiarity with REDCap
